[In the forest a man is just waking up to find himself sitting against a tree wearing nothing but the cotton white pants. When he fully awakes, his movements are slow and tentative as though expecting pain.]

What...where am I? Could this be Lost Jerusalem? Not exactly how I expected to see it...[He hadn't expected to be seeing anything. The darkness had fallen bringing a sense of peace with it, yet now he felt alive. Normal except-]

[There's a sudden hiss of pain as his back starts to protest.] Ah, what...? [When he reaches to find what is causing the pain he lets loose a sound of surprise] Feathers? Wings? [He leans forward letting his hand fall away from his back and onto a book.]

Hm? What is this? [He picks it up and flips it open.] How odd. It appears to be a...computer of some sort? In book form?

There appears to be more going on here beyond my understanding...

[Her gaze grows sympathetic upon hearing that.]

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but at least you have a chance at a new life. I know it may not seem that way from what that I've just said, but it's not all terrible here.

[His tone takes on a certain lightness though it almost sounds forced.] Hm...I'm almost afraid to ask but...[Afraid? Terrified, especially since he doesn't know what answer he wants.] Some return. What happens to those who are dead in their worlds?

[Rydia sighs and bows her head.]

They return to...whatever awaits them, I suppose.

[There's a long pause before he speaks again]...I suppose it is as you say, a new life. And as something of a scholar, I must admit this is fascinating.

[She glances back up at that with a wry smile.]

That's what a friend of mine from home said when he arrived, too. And who knows, you might not leave. I haven't, all this time.

It really is no different. We never know when the end will come. The time frame may be shorter, but otherwise it is much the same.

That's a good point. In any case, I'd be glad to help you adjust to this place. You can still decide what happens here, if nothing else.

I appreciate your help. Hm, odd how we take the most mundane things for granted until we lose them...I assume there must be somewhere to stay? And what of weapons if such things can be acquired here. I had a katana, but it doesn't seem to have come with me. [At this point he is starting to slump a bit in the seat and his voice has lost some of its clarity to exhaustion.]

Oh, I bet anything it's in town. Across the plaza, you'll find the smithy. Look around, and it's likely to be there. The same goes for your clothes, in the clothing store.

As for somewhere to stay, I'd recommend one of the Community Buildings.

[She gestures to the map, pointing them out.]

They have three rooms to an apartment and a shared kitchen area for the floor. Anywhere that isn't taken, you can claim.

I think, if there isn't anything more I should know immediately, I would like to get these things settled.

[She thinks that over, then shakes her head.]

Nothing that urgent. Just be aware that we tend to get hit with an experiment later in the month, that's all. We'll probably have a welcome party for the newcomers, though I'm not actually in charge of that, so I don't know when it will be. But I'm sure there will be an announcement.

[He frowns a bit at the mention of the experiment, but on the other hand, it can't be as bad as what he just left. He rises to his feet and gives the map a final glance over before giving a Rydia a respectful bow of his head and smile.] Thank you for everything, Rydia.
